Ten years ago is ancient history in the showbiz world, so much so that you may not know that some Irish celebrities you see on your TV screens were once married to someone else.

Some well-known faces have since remarried after getting divorced or are in new long-term relationships, so you may not have realised they were ever married.

Síle Seoige and Glen Mulcahy

Síle Seoige was once married to TG4 producer Glen Mulcahy, tying the knot in 2005, at the age of 26.

However, the pair divorced in 2009 after three years of marriage although speaking after their separation, Síle insisted that she was still friendly with her ex husband.

Síle told RSVP Magazine in 2015: 'Separating was the right thing for us to do. We are both very happy, both very friendly - which is not always easy - and we are very lucky to have that.'

Síle moved on after she met a Garda from Cork, Damien O’Farrell, while completing a 600km charity cycle in the US in 2014. The couple got engaged in 2018 and have since welcomed two children together, Cathal and Cliodhna, but she has yet to tie the knot a second time.

Vogue Williams and Brian McFadden

With Vogue Williams and her Made In Chelsea star husband Spencer Matthews considered such a celeb power couple, it's hard to believe that she was once married to Brian McFadden.

However, the model and the Westlife singer once said 'I do' in a romantic ceremony in Tuscany in Italy in 2012, just 18 months after they first met in a nightclub in Dublin at the age of 26 and 32, respectively.

Their marriage was short lived and they split in 2015, three years after tying the knot with Vogue blaming the move to Australia to be with him as he worked as a judge on Australia's Got Talent for ruining her marriage.

Vogue later remarried in 2018 to Spencer and is now a busy mum of three children, Theodore, Gigi and Otto, while Brian is engaged to fiancée Danielle Parkinson, with who he shares a baby girl, Ruby.

Grainne Seoige and Stephen Cullinane

Grainne Seoige was once married to her TV3work colleague and then sports presenter Stephen Cullinane after tying the knot in 2002, aged 28, in a traditional white wedding in Connemara.

However, the couple broke up in 2010 after eight years of marriage but insisted that the split was 'amicable' and they 'remained good friends', the Irish Independent reported at the time.

The Gaeilgeoir fell in love again with South African businessman Leon Jordaan in 2011 after they met while they were both working filming for the show Reality Bites.

She got remarried in December 2019 and her and Leon lived in South Africa for five years before moving back to Ireland in 2021.

Victoria Smurfit and Doug Baxter

Victoria Smurfit and Douglas Baxter tied the knot in 2000. The former couple share three children- Evie Dorothy, Ridley Belle and Flynn Alexander.

They were married for 15 years before going their separate ways. In a statement at the time, Victoria said: 'Doug Baxter and I have filed for divorce in California.'

'For 15 years we have been the best of friends and we continue to be, not only for ourselves but for our family,' she continued. 'We have always been a tight-knit family unit and we are both committed to maintaining that going forward.'

'Our children are our highest priority, so to protect them we will not be discussing it further. Change is difficult enough.'

Victoria went on to marry her second hubby Steve Jacobs in December 2023.

Before Brian McFadden married Vogue Williams in 2012, he was previously married to Atomic Kitten singer Kerry Katona from 2002 to 2006.

Brian was 22 when he tied the knot with Kerry and despite being married for four years and sharing two children together, Molly and Lilly Sue, the pair had a tumultuous relationship.

They have both spoken critically of their relationship, with Kerry calling it 'fake and phoney' and Brian admitting to cheating on Kerry on his stag with a lap dancer.

Kerry later admitted she knew their marriage was doomed, telling the chat show Loose Women: 'If someone falls out of love with you there’s nothing you can do'.

Claire Byrne and Richard Johnson

Claire Byrne's first marriage was to radio executive Richard Johnson after they met when she worked on Channel 103, a radio station in Jersey.

They tied the knot in 2003 and Claire, aged 27, became a stepmother to his two children. However, they divorced after a three-year marriage, and Claire later spoke about how she regretted speaking about her personal life in the press.

Speaking on The Irish Times podcast, she said: '[My first marriage ending] was the first time something went wrong in my life when I was on the public stage. There was a lot of information about the place about me. And whose fault was that? Mine.'

Ten years after her divorce, in 2016, the RTE presenter got remarried to her partner Gerry Scollan in a low-key ceremony wearing a champagne-coloured silk wedding dress, although this time round she has chosen to keep her personal life out of the limelight.

Ronan Keating and Yvonne Keating

Ronan Keatingm 47, is now married to Storm but before that he had a 17-year marriage to his first wife Yvonne Connolly.

The Boyzone star and the Irish model, who is three years older, first met in her village when they were aged just 10 and 13. Ronan was with his dad who was delivering minerals in the area and he developed a crush on Yvonne, admitting that he 'really liked her'.

They reconnected years later, started dating got married in secret on the Caribbean island of Nevis in April 1998 after a whirlwind romance, at the ages of just 21 and 24.

Yvonne and Ronan went on to have three children together, Jack, 25, Missy, 23, and Ali Keating, 18. However, their marriage broke down in 2010 after Yvonne discovered Ronan had an affair with a backing dancer through his phone bills and the couple announced their split in 2012.

Their divorce was finalised in 2015 and they have both gone on to find love again, with Ronan marrying TV producer, Storm (whose real name is Sharyn) in August 2015 and Yvonne in a long-term relationship with cinematographer John Conroy for over 10 years.

Sinéad O'Connor and John Reynolds

Sinéad O'Connor was married four times in her life but her first marriage was to record producer and musician John Reynolds, who produced her first album, The Lion and the Cobra.

They became parents together in June 1987 after the birth of their first son Jake and tied the knot two years later in a London registry office in 1989.

Sinead and John's marriage lasted two years before they split in 1991 but the exes remained friends and continued to share a very close bond over the years, with Sinead calling him her 'best friend on earth'.

John continued to collaborate with Sinead, working as a producer on a number of her albums and even went on tour with her as a drummer in her band in 2013.

They became grandparents in 2015 after their son Jake welcomed a baby boy with his girlfriend Lia.

Pierce Brosnan and Cassandra Harris

Before Pierce Brosnan met his now wife Keely, he was married for 11 years to Australian actress Cassandra Harris, before she sadly passed away.

Pierce and Cassandra married in 1980 and three years later, they welcomed a son, Sean Brosnan.

The James Bond actor also adopted Cassandra's children from a previous relationship, Charlotte and Christopher, when their biological father passed away in 1986.

However, Pierce's family life has sadly been marked with tragedy after Cassandra was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 1987 and she died in 1991 aged 43 years old.

He later lost his adopted daughter, Charlotte, to the same cancer that killed her mother and she died in 2013 aged 41.

Majella McLennan and Daniel O'Donnell

Daniel O'Donnell has been married to his wife Majella since 2002, however, before she married country singer Daniel she was married to someone else.

Majella married her first husband, Raymond McLennan and they had two children together, Siobhan and Michael, but their marriage was annulled after he cheated on her with numerous women.

When Majella first met Daniel in Tenerife in 1999, she was the mother of two young kids. Daniel broke up with her six months into their relationship as he was unsure about dating someone who had been married before, due to his Catholic faith.

However, the attraction was undeniable and the pair got back together and married in Donegal in 2002.

Bob Geldofand Paula Yates

Bob Geldof has been with his long-time partner, French actress Jeanne Marine since they met at a dinner party in 1996 and tied the knot in 2015.

However, it was the singer's second marriage after his first marriage to Paula Yeates ended in divorce and then tragedy.

Bob and Paula married in 1986 ten years after they first met on the punk scene in London and had three children together Pixie, Peaches and Fifi.

Paula left Bob for singer Michael Hutchence and they had a daughter together, Tiger Lily, in 1996. Michael was found dead by suicide in a Sydney hotel room in November 1997.

Three years later, in 2000, Paula died of a heroin overdose and Bob and his partner Jeanne adopted her daughter Tiger-Lily.

Miriam O'Callaghan and Tom McGurk

Miriam O’Callaghan is a mother of eight children, four sons whom she shares with her current husband, Steve Carson, and four daughters with her ex-husband, Tom McGurk.

Miriam married her first husband, Tom, in 1983. Tom is also a journalist and they were married for 12 years before they separated in 1995.

The Prime Time presenter has previously spoken about how she considers the breakdown of her first marriage as a 'big failure', saying: 'I am divorced and in the scale of things in life having a broken marriage is a big failure.'

Miriam found love again with her second husband Steve Carson while she was living in London and working on the BBC programme Newsnight and they married in the year 2000.
