Archie J. Gray
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Archie Junior Gray, 73, of Berkeley Springs, died Wednesday, Dec. 25, 1996, as the result of an automobile accident in Morgan County, W.Va.
His wife, Hazel Lucille Gray, died in the same accident.
Born May 23, 1923, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Archie Theodore and Bessie Henson Gray.
He was a radio/TV repairman with Georges TV in Washington for many years.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
He was a member of Morgan County Chapter 34, D.A.V.
He is survived by three daughters, Leanna Gray Vest of San Diego, Calif., Deborah M. Davis of Albuquerque, N. M., and Dorothy V. Martin of Goose Creek, S.C.; one son, Anthony M. Gray of Deale, Md.; one sister, Bertha Greene of Ocala, Fla.; one brother, Edward Gray of Clearwater, Fla.; six grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Ethel Schmidt.
Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union Street, Berkeley Springs. The Rev. Hennis H. Fox will officiate. Burial will be in Duckwall Church of Christ Cemetery, Morgan County, W.Va.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
The funeral home will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Mildred C. Anderson
GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Mildred C. Anderson, 81, of 250 Orchard Circle, died Wednesday, Dec. 25, 1996, at her home.
Born June 28, 1915, in Hustontown, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Rudasill and Mertie Berkstresser Lamberson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin G. Anderson, on April 17, 1986.
She operated the former Anderson's Grocery in Upton, Pa., for 25 years.
She was a member of St. Stephen's United Church of Christ, Upton.
She was a life member of Golden Age Center, Greencastle; a member of Greencastle Senior Center; a charter member of Greencastle AARP chapter 3025; and a member of Upton Homemakers.
She is survived by one son, Donald G. Anderson of Greencastle; a foster daughter, Sarah Sandy of Thurmont, Md.; one sister, Irene Lamberson of Marion, Pa.; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Faye Souders; and one brother, Glen Lamberson.
Services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Stephen's United Church of Christ, Buchanan Trail West, Upton. The Rev. Doug-las Hodges will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle and at the church one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

Nina V. Newkirk
INWOOD, W.Va. - Nina V. Newkirk, 92, of Inwood, died Thursday, Dec. 26, 1996, at City Hospital, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Oct. 16, 1904, in Bedington, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Aaron and Effie Horner Crim.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ellis M. "Mace" Newkirk.
She was a member of Hedgesville United Methodist Church in Hedgesville, W.Va.
She is survived by one daughter, E. Jean Barrow of Inwood; two sons, Curtis E. Newkirk of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Neil W. Newkirk of Hanco*ck; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one grandson, Bruce W. Nesmith; and three brothers, Aaron Crim, Elmer Crim and Glen Crim.
Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. Terri S. Cofiell will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends today from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
A. Mary H. Brandt
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A. Mary Heckman Brandt, 88, a resident of Menno Haven Nursing Home, died Wednesday, Dec. 25, 1996, at the nursing home.
Born June 23, 1908, in Upton, Pa., she was the daughter of the late John E. and Clara Ellen Johnson Heckman.
Her husband, Glen C. Brandt, died in 1994. They were married in 1942.
She graduated as a nurse from Protestant Episcopal Hospital in Philadelphia in 1930. In 1934, she completed three months postgraduate work in contagious diseases. In 1941, she received a certificate for Public Instruction Permanent Standard and to act as a school nurse and home and school visitor by the state of Pennsylvania. On Jan. 17, 1964, she received regular civil service status, nurse 1, in Pennsylvania.
She worked at Waynesboro Hospital in Waynesboro, Pa., for three years and spent three years in private duty in the Chambersburg area. For nine years, she worked as school nurse and home school visitor for the Chambersburg School System. She taught classes for the American Red Cross, was a private duty nurse, and a school nurse for Scotland School for Veterans Children. She retired in 1978.
She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Chambersburg, and was active in the arts and crafts department.
She also was a member of American Nurses Association and the National Education Association.
She is survived by one daughter, LaRue Brandt of Chambersburg; one son, William H. Brandt of Seattle; one sister, Ruth Fritz of Philadelphia; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother, John Heckman.
Services will be at the convenience of the family. There will be no public viewing.

Arrangements are by Cumberland Valley Crematorium.
Jean B. Stroup
MIDDLETOWN, Md. - Jean Bormann Stroup, 72, of 7307 Coventry Drive, died Thursday, Dec. 26, 1996, at Frederick Healthcare Center.
Born Nov. 8, 1924 in Belleville, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Albert H. and Alice Martin Bormann.
She was a 1946 graduate of William and Mary College in Williamsburg, Va., with a degree in accounting.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Middletown.
She was a member of Tri-Delta Sorority; the Loyalty Chapter 79 Order of Frederick Eastern Star and past president of Kiwives.
She is survived by her husband, Ellis H. Stroup; two daughters, Lynn D. Stroup and Laurel, Md., and Patricia A. Dolan of Middletown; three sons, Larry Stroup of Oakland, Calif, Jerry D. Stroup of Laurel, and Edward A. Stroup of Middletown; one granddaughter and two grandsons.
Visitation and services will be private. The Rev. Donald L. Turley will officiate. Burial will be in the Lutheran Cemetery, Middletown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to William and Mary College, c/o Robert S. Dutro, 108 Shoreham Lane, Williamsburg, Va. 23185.

Lynn M. Freeze
Lynn Marie Freeze, D.O., 33, of Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Dec. 25, 1996, at Washington County Hospital as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Born Jan. 8, 1963, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of Bernard J. and Lois M. Haasen Freeze of Eldersburg, Md.
She was a family practitioner with Antietam Medical Associates.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by two brothers, James B. Freeze of Westminster, Md., and Michael P. Freeze of Hanover, Pa.; three nieces; and one nephew.
Charles A. Beck
HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Charles A. Beck, 74, of The Woods Resort, died Thursday, Dec. 26, 1996, at City Hospital.
Born Oct. 7, 1922, in Metcalf, Ill., he was the son of the late John and Jesse Opal Dailey Beck.
He was a retired electrician.
He was a member of Berkeley Baptist Church, Berkeley Springs and was active in the Tri-County Baptist Association.
He served with the Seabees during World War II.
He was a member of American Legion, Brookeville, Md.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Clive Beck; two daughters, Joyce Anna Hermann of Churchton, Md., and Katherine Marie Beck of Pasadena, Md.; two sons, Paul Lee Beck of Norfolk, Va., and David Beck of New York; three stepsons, James Edward Ellis of Toms River, N.J., Brian Scott of Chevy Chase, Md., and Stephen Scott of Charles Town, W.Va.; one stepdaughter, Joy Olive of Long Beach, Miss.; two sisters, Norma Winters of Rockville, Md. and Wilma Morgan of Frederick, Md.; three brothers, John Beck of Stevensonville, Md., Jesse Beck of Bethesda, Md. and Donald Beck of Rockville; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. Johnny Kelly will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery, Martinsburg.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Tri-County Baptist Association, P.O. Box 1702, Hedgesville, W.Va. 25427.
Randy A. Wright Jr.
Randy Allen Wright Jr., infant son of Michele L. Gearhart and Randy A. Wright of Hanco*ck, died Dec. 19, 1996, at Washington County Hospital.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his maternal grandparents, Boyd and Betty Gearhart of Hanco*ck; paternal grandparents, Shannon and Joyce Wright of Breezewood, Pa.; a grandmother, Margie Hull of Hanco*ck; and three aunts and four uncles.
Graveside services were held Monday, Dec. 23, at Wells Valley Cemetery, Wells Tannery, Pa.
Arrangemetns were by Douglas A. Fiery funeral Home, Hagerstown.
