P-Channel Power MOSFET - Infineon Technologies (2024)

Overview

P-channel power MOSFETs reducing design complexity in medium and low power applications

A P-channel MOSFET uses hole flow as the charge carrier, which has less mobility than the electron flow used in N-channel MOSFETs. In functional terms, the main difference is that P-channel MOSFETsrequire a negative voltagefrom the gate to the source (VGS) to turn on (as opposed to an N-channel MOSFET, which requires a positive VGSvoltage).

This makes P-channel MOSFETs the ideal choice for high-side switches. The simplicity of the design is beneficial for low-voltage drives applications and non-isolated POLs, where space is limited. One of the great advantages of the P-channel MOSFET characteristics is the simplified gate driving technique that often reduces overall cost.

P-channel power MOSFET offerings

Infineon offers a large range of P-channel power MOSFET voltages. Explore our product offersbelow.

P-channel power MOSFET voltage classes

Infineon offers P-channel power MOSFET transistors in voltage classes ranging from -12 V to -250 V. The P-channel enhancement mode power MOSFETs offer the designer a new option that can simplify circuitry while optimizing performance and are available in P-channel MOSFET -60 V and P-channel MOSFET -100 V product ranges, as well as -200 V P-channel MOSFETs and -250 V P-channel MOSFETs.

The main advantage of a P-channel device is the reduction of design complexity in medium and low power applications. Infineon’s range of -12 V P-channel MOSFET and -20 V P-channel MOSFET offer industry standard surface-mount power packages while -30 V P-channel MOSFETs and -40 V P-channel MOSFETs are optimized for broadest availability from distribution partners.

P-channel power MOSFETs including the P-channel MOSFET -12 V range of products are ideally suited forbattery protection, reverse polarity protection, linear battery chargers, load switched,DC-DC converters, andlow voltage driveapplications. P-channel MOSFETs such as P-channel MOSFET -30 V range of products are often used inconsumer electronics, such as notebook, laptops, cellphones, and PDAs.

Available packages include D²PAK, DPAK,DirectFET, IPAK, I²PAK, PQFN, SOT-223, TO-220, TO-247, SOT-23, TSOP-6, andSuperSO8amongst others.
