The completion of the archaeological excavation of the late Roman wreck of Ses Fontanelles (2021-2022), sunk in Mallorcan waters in the late 4th century, made it possible to identify that a significant part of the amphorae were oil containers, which came from coastal workshops of the Carthaginian area, having been named Ses Fontanelles I – Dr. 23 Carthaginian. In addition to their typological exceptionality, they bore tituli picti alluding to oleum dulce and oleum viride, together with the details of the commercial agents, and on the mortar that sealed their opercula, an exceptional seal has been documented, composed of a Chrismon and some nominal elements alluding to two characters from the gens Flavia. For the first time, in these pages we present the problem of the oil shipment and the amphorae epigraphy associated with these oil containers, reflecting on the possibility that we are dealing with a mixed shipment (oil, salted fish and wine), at least part of which was under the control of some ecclesiastical authority, with perhaps the possible involvement of the bishoprics or monasteries of southeastern Spain at a very early time, in which these evidence become even more important.

El artículo tiene como objetivo el reconocimiento arqueológico de estructuras productivas en el seno de asentamientos que disponen de una iglesia temprana y que se integran en el paisaje rural creado a partir de la desaparición del estado romano en el sector litoral de la Tarraconense (actual Cataluña). El análisis se establece en dos planos, uno general que permite valorar la incidencia de este tipo de conjuntos en el marco del poblamiento rural de la época y uno de detalle que se centra en el examen de tres casos signficativos como son Sant Menna, Sant Cugat del Vallès y el Bovalar.

Evidencias del comercio en época romana en la subbética cordobesa/Evidences of Roman trade in Cordoba subbética

We study a number of archaeological evidences testifying the trade networks that connected the region of Cordoba Subbética with the rest of Baetica. These evidences, primarily amphora vessels, allow an approach to the problem of which were the export routes of the great oil production of the area and, at the same time, contribute to the knowledge of the diffusion of the products from the Guadalquivir Valley and coastal baetican areas (oil, wine, salt-fish and fish sauces) within the province. In the light of a new reading of archaeological data of this site we propose a new hypothesis. It is possible we are facing a monastery specialized in the production of parchment. We examine El Bolavar linking the site with its nearest geographical area, but also inserting it into the documented context of the parchment production in the former territories of the Roman Empire during Late Antiquity and High Middle Ages. Este trabajo se centra en el estudio de la realidad arqueologica de la provincia romana de la Betica durante el periodo que media entre la caida del Imperio y la desaparicion del Reino Visigodo de Toledo. El marco geografico de nuestro estudio se cine grosso modo al territorio comprendido por la mitad occidental de la actual Andalucia, incluyendo tambien algunos territorios situados al sur de Extremadura limitrofes con aquella. En el marco conmemorativo de los 50 años de la revista Pyrenae, el equipo editorial ha considerado oportuno dedicar este volumen a sintetizar la investigación del Departamento de Prehistoria, Historia Antigua y Arqueología de la Universitat de Barcelona. Para ello se ha solicitado a cada uno de los grupos de investigación que lo conforman una síntesis de su labor investigadora. A los actos conmemorativos de la revista Pyrenae, cabe añadir otra efeméride importante como es el centenario de la lección inaugural de Pere Bosch Gimpera en la Universitat de Barcelona que se celebrará en 2016. Resulta paradójico, sin embargo, que en un momento con motivos para celebraciones, la sensación sea más bien de desazón. La Universitat de Barcelona se encuentra sumida en un proceso de reforma de sus estructuras que significará la desaparición del citado Departamento, y conllevará un futuro incierto para la arqueología.
